John Robert Wooden (born October 14, 1910) is a retired American basketball coach. He is a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame as both a player (class of 1961) and as a coach (class of 1973). He was the first person ever enshrined in both categories; only Lenny Wilkens and Bill Sharman have since been so honored.[1] His 10 NCAA National Championships in a 12 year period while at UCLA are unmatched by any other college basketball coach.
Never try to be better than someone else, always learn by orthers. Never cease trying to be the best you can be.That’s under your control. If you get too engrossed and involved and concerned in regard to the things over which you have no control, it will adversely affect the things over which you have control.
"Things turn out best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out."
At God’s footstool to confess, a poor soul knelt, and bowed his head. I failed he cried. From those things, and one other perhaps.
Peace of mind attained only through self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to do the best of which you’re capable.
No written word, no spoken plea
Never be late, clean and neat, patientence
Don’t whine. Don’t complain. Don’t make excuses. Just get out there, and whatever you’re doing, do it the best of your ability. And no one can do more than that. I try to get across,t oo, that my opponents don’t tell you—you never heard me mention winnning. Never mention winning. My idea is that you can lose when ou outscore somebody in a game. And you can win when you’re outscored. I’ve felt that way on certain occasions at various times. And I just wanted them to be able to hold their head up after a game. I used to say that when a game is over, and you see somebody that didn’t know the outcome, I hope they couldn’t tell by your actions whether you outscored and opponent or the opponent outscored you. That’s really matters: if you make effort to do the best you can regularly, the results will be about what they should be. Not necessary to what you would want them to be, but they wil be about what they should, and only you will know whether you can do that.
